Patriot Day 2018 Draws Crowd of 200+

Christ Prep Football’s annual Patriot Day celebration started with a buzz of excitement among the players and families. We had around 200 people show up for the much-anticipated event.

Festivities on the field started with the Junior High team in tackling drills, including the much-loved Oklahoma drills and “Patriot Alley,” as the Varsity stood nearby. One Junior High player commented, “Having all the Varsity guys watching us pushed us to work harder.” And the Varsity really enjoyed seeing how much the younger guys put into their performance.

After the Junior High players demonstrated their skills, they introduced themselves to rousing cheers from the crowd.

Next up, the Varsity players moved into a scrimmage between the “White Lightening” and “Blue Thunder” squads. We saw a strong defensive showing in that initial match-up. Once the teams switched to first offense and first defense, we saw a fine defensive effort throughout in addition to a couple explosive offensive plays by Sway Jenkins.

We were honored by guest appearances from Founding Coach Dick Burton, who started the Christ Prep program in 2003, and a number of alumni players including Grant Collison, Charlie Davis, Riley Gilkeson, Aaron Misener, Nick Pierce, Jackson Shiner, and Chase Stamatis. Seeing all these players on the sideline was “like a glimpse into the past,” according to Noah Berry, sophomore.

To cap off the celebration, we all enjoyed a lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, salads, chips, and cookies. We’d like to give special thanks to Janine Wilkins who organized this fantastic meal in only a few days, and to all the families who contributed side dishes. We know the “Cookie Bar” was a hit among the young men as one Varsity player marveled, “There was an entire table dedicated to just cookies!”

Cheers to the season ahead – Go Patriots!!!
